In the month of October, a month dedicated to increasing awareness and fighting breast cancer, we had to deal with a serious “rape culture” issue. All across the country people have been voicing their outrage over the issue, demanding justice for the little girl and her family who have been hardly done by this inhumane act of cruelty and some unscrupulous traditional leaders claiming the “gods have forgiven the rapist” because he is a royal.
2017 will go down in history as one of
the most politically empowered years. In Ghana it was a year of political
change. This was not your ordinary political change as one major social issue
that troubled the country and africa as a whole was the astronomical increase
in the number of illegal mineral miners on the continent. In Ghana, as the
subject matter, the term “Stop Galamsey” more than ever represented a unified
voice to finally say we were tired of watching illegal Chinese miners deprive
future generations the beautiful ecological system we have been blessed with in
the form of water bodies as the rate of pollution in these water bodies rose to
an all time high. Artists did not sit back unconcerned. Both established and
emerging artists added their creative voice to the fight against Galamsey and
this videography by @bobpixel on his Instagram page became popular in most part
of the year.
In the same period Digital artist
Bright Ackwerh made a huge statement with his piece on the issue. This time
addressing the issue continent wise.

utmost applause is Ray Style studios. The timely production and release of the
unofficially-official campaign artwork with a little girl crying out of pain
and a hand of a grown man with toffee covering her mouth so the sound of her
cry can’t be heard, added fluidity of energy to the campaign which sought
justice for the little girl. It is by this gesture from the group of artists at
this studio that we all celebrate this studio.
